To support each unit of learning, there is an associated 'Knowledge Organiser'. These contain all the key facts and information that children need to have a basic knowledge and understanding of for each unit. The organisers can be used both in school, and at home, as a starting point for discussion or the basis for further research, providing the children with the 'bigger picture' of a topic. Our belief is that the more children know, the more they will learn.
Our current unit of learning is 'Earth and Space'. To access the knowledge organiser, please click the link below:
At St Ann's Heath, we want to instil all children with a love of reading for pleasure and enjoyment of a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts which help them to connect with the world around them. We want all children to read a variety of increasingly challenging texts which cover a wide range of genres and build a breadth of vocabulary. With this in mind, we have compiled a list of books linked to our units of learning. To access this document, please click the link below:
In addition, we teach reading every day using the Jane Considine Reading Units. Please have a look at the Year 5 Book Spine to see which texts your child will be reading.
We are often asked to recommend texts that are appropriate for specific age groups. Please click the link below to access recommended books for Year 5 and Year 6:
This list is also in the back of the school planner.
